India extended its World Cup dominance over Pakistan with a 7-wicket victory in Ahmedabad on Saturday. The win was India’s eighth in 10 World Cup matches against Pakistan.
India won the toss and elected to field. Pakistan made a slow start, scoring just 20 runs in the first five overs. Abdullah Shafique was out for 20 in the sixth over, caught behind off Mohammad Siraj.
Imam-ul-Haq and Babar Azam then put on 36 runs for the second wicket, but Imam was out for 30 in the 12th over, caught by wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant off Mohammed Shami.
Babar Azam was out for 49 in the 20th over, bowled by Jasprit Bumrah. Pakistan were then 168-5 in the 25th over, and the match was all but over.
Mohammad Rizwan was out for 49 in the 27th over, caught by Pant off Bumrah. Pakistan were bowled out for 191 in the 34th over.
India chased down the target with ease, reaching 193-3 in 31 overs. Rohit Sharma scored 86 off 33 balls, while Shreyas Iyer made 53 off 52 balls.
